Construction services were provided for this nearly two-mile, $8 million urban reconstruction to accommodate increased traffic volumes on this major thoroughfare. Challenges included construction staging as well as a number of unforeseen challenges including on-site materials that were deemed unusable after the project began; a tight work area in which the retaining wall and grading contractors needed to work simultaneously; an undersized storm sewer that caused flooding during construction and required the construction of additional storm sewer structures and piping; and the construction of two detention ponds in an environmentally sensitive area that was also located within close proximity to a day care center, requiring extra safety precautions.
