Sustainable Design/LEED®
R.A. Smith National is committed to advancing the knowledge and development of sustainable design principles. Our Sustainable Development Team provides site planning, site engineering of sustainable practices, irrigation design and specialized landscape architectural services for a range of projects and clients throughout the United States.
A variety of green design approaches are used to blend the natural and built environments. Common green elements integrated into the site design include rain gardens; bio-swales; permeable pavers; well-planned, natural landscapes; and others.
Our staff also works closely with clients who are interested in obtaining the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification that has been put in place by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to recognize sustainable developments.
R.A. Smith National's team contributes their experience in obtaining Sustainable Site and Water Efficiency credits in a collaborative effort with the overall design team. In this way, our sustainable team works with the client, their architect, and other designers to develop projects that are both sustainable and economical. Three members of our team have earned the designation of LEED Accredited Professional through USGBC.
R.A. Smith National is participating in the 5th Annual Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Leadership conference (SE2) September 17, 2008, in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
